Learn to Save a Life at Burr and Burton’s Information Night March 6
The Burr and Burton Academy Parent Association will be hosting a Parent Information Night on Thursday, March 6, 2008. VELCO/Vermont Electric Power Company will provide parents with Save A Life training, similar to what the students received last year. The program will be held in the Rowland Center cafeteria from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
John Donleavy, president of Vermont Electric Power Company, became interested in the program after meeting Carol Spizzirri, who founded the Save a Life Foundation in 1993 shortly after her 18-year-old daughter Christina died because first-responders were not trained in basic life-supporting first aid.
He believes Vermont is a perfect place to give students and their parents this training as emergency services in rural areas may be far away. The goal of the program is teach Basic Life-Support and First Aid (LSFA) skills and training –performing CPR and the Heimlich maneuver and using an automatic external defibrillator to jumpstart a patient's heart - intended to help them to save lives. All the linemen at VELCO have been trained, he said.
Due to the nature of the program, interested parents are asked to RSVP. Please contact Eve Perni at 362-0775, e-mail: eveletp@aol.com, or Margaret Saling at 362-1776, e-mail margaret_saling@yahoo.com . We look forward to seeing you at this important event.
