Burr and Burton Academy trustee Barry Rowland and his wife Wendy recently met with the fifty Burr and Burton students who are the first recipients of grants from the Rowland Student Life and Learning Fund. This fund was established last year by the Rowlands as part of their endowment gift to the school. Its purpose is to provide students with financial support for learning experiences outside the classroom. Students may apply to the fund to travel or pursue other educational opportunities that would otherwise not be possible for them. Several students will use their grant to travel to Europe and South America, while others plan to use their stipends to help build a school in Haiti, attend the (Model) UN in South Africa, travel to Washington, DC, with the Close-Up program, and take a course at the New York Film Institute. “I am very grateful to the Rowlands,” said senior Jared Hodgin (far left). “I would never have this amazing chance to go to Paris without their help.”
